Wow. All the grades did a name project as their first project after Winter Break. I am totally floored at how amazing these second grade projects turned out. I had the students take them home but I think next year I will keep them and hang them up! They wrote the letters of their name all over their paper, three times. Then they used lines and colors to fill in the white spaces, creating a piece of abstract art. We have been talking a lot about abstract and what it means. So, in keeping with our abstract work, we learned all about Jackson Pollock and how he made his art. They called him Action Jackson because he was all about process, moving around the huge canvas and dripping and slinging his paint. The students created a (less messy) version of this by marble painting. We used black paint to finish it and they turned out very striking. These will be coming home soon!
