Thank you to all who came to the Art Show last night, and all the students who worked for it! It was for K, 2nd, and 4th grades. There is still time to buy your student's artwork in the frame. Just send in $25 cash or check (made out to Van Buren) to your student's teacher. If you don't want to purchase, your child's artwork will be sent home soon! :)
All students grades 1-5 created themselves dressed in Waldo gear. We made a giant mural containing all the Waldos. Can you find Bob Pasta hidden among them? He looks an awful lot like Mr. Helmuth, except he has a microphone and an ESPN hat....
The third graders represented at the Children's Museum haunted house this year have their work up at the Museum until Halloween. The theme was Wicked Woods! These students are in the top 30 of all contest contestants that entered the contest. If you stop by the haunted house, look for their artwork! Great job, third graders!
Welcome to a new school year here at Van Buren! The kids have been working hard so far this year improving our school and making it a better place. We rebooted our discussions about filling buckets and about how important it is to do that in Art and all over the school. The students created these posters and buckets to remind everyone what that looks like. Amazing!
Come see us at the March 15th Art Show! You DON'T have to buy your child's framed artwork, but it is an option. I would LOVE to see every student enjoying their artwork at the art show. REMEMBER, THIS IS FOR KINDERGARTEN, SECOND, AND FOURTH GRADES! :) our other grades will be participating in Art to Remember, and you will get more information about that soon.
Grades are coming out. How do grades work in art class?
Every grading period has two grades, an effort grade and a grade on the project they've been working on. Try not to focus too much on the individual assignments that pertain to each student. The thing to pay attention to is the final score. For grades 1 and 2, students receive a score of 3, 2, or 1. A score of 3 means your student does what is asked of them and is working hard in art class. If a student gets a score below 3, that means they are needing to work on a certain area, probably effort. For grades 3 thru 5, students get an S-, S, S+, or O. If your student gets an S+. that means extra satisfactory. They are doing great in class, have great effort and are doing what is asked. I reserve the grade of O for students that go ABOVE AND BEYOND, working on their own time to give extraordinary effort or work on having extraordinary skill. Not very many students get the grade of O. If students get below an S+, they probably are not putting forth their greatest effort or they are having behavior problems in class. As always, email me or call me if you have ANY questions at all! Thanks! Did you know... our third graders entered the Children's Museum art contest for the second year in a row... and we got 3 KIDS IN THE TOP 30! This means their artwork is hanging up at the Children's Museum RIGHT NOW in the hallway on the way to their (very cool) haunted house. The theme was Cursed Castle. Head over to the Third Grade tab to see the artwork featured there!
This year at the start of school every student made a monochromatic (one color) portrait of themselves. I combined all 500+ portraits into a rainbow. We are all so beautifully working together and relying on each other in the art room! :)
