For the last project of the year, we learned about color schemes like analogous, complimentary, warm and cool colors. The fourth graders chose a color scheme and 4 or less colors. Then we made our scratch art paper by coloring really hard on a piece of paper and painting over it with a special paint concoction (black tempera plus dish soap- weird, I know). After it dried, we scratched out our designs- and they appeared in beautiful colored fashion! Very cool!
The fourth graders learned about tints and shades, which are different values of a color. They probably have a really irritating song they can sing you about it :) They taped their paper into interesting sections. Then they painted the regular color, tints, and shades in the spaces. They did a little math too and divided the amounts as equally as they could. These turned out SO pretty! More photos to come.
What have your kids been working on?! ;) They got a quick lesson in perspective and we learned about how things look different from different angles. We drew a birch tree from below. Then we used tissue paper (grown up artists use tissue paper too!) to create a sky with a color scheme. When they were done, they created an accent to finish off the picture. Beautiful.
Fourth graders have been working on salt dough maps of Indiana. And man, have we learned a lot! We learned about the shape and landforms of Indiana, including the landform regions. Then we made our own salt dough. We created a salt dough map showing all these landforms an regions. We painted them. Finally, we watched some videos about Indiana and created a cool title that showed some of the most popular aspects of Indiana. The students did this as a group project so you may not see it at your house. But they all worked really hard on them and the result was beautiful!
Students are finishing their anti-color wheel projects! It took a lot longer than I thought it would :) But they come up with the most amazing ideas! They cut a single shape out of all of their colors (12 different colors- all the primary, secondary, and intermediate colors of the color wheel) and arranged them in an interesting way. It is really cool to see the students finish these!
It doesn't look like much now, but the students are creating an anti-color wheel project. This means they reviewed how to mix all the colors and are creating them with paint. Then they are going to cut a shape out of every color and create a design with them. Check back to see how it's going soon! :)
They also worked on the hand mural (see blog page) and a color wheel that they did in crayon. Check here for updates on what your fourth grader is doing in the art room!
